Meet Our Team

Corio Veterinary Clinic was established in 1978. We are a modern well-equipped hospital, with a caring and experienced team of veterinarians and nurses who are committed to providing the best care for your pets. We are able to offer a wide range of services including consultations, desexing & microchipping, elective and emergency surgery and home visits. Our surgical and medical equipment is kept well up to date to enhance quick and effective treatment of your pets. With good advice and professional care, we strive to give your pet the best ongoing health care.

Our Lara Veterinary Clinic was opened in 1983 to cater for the ever expanding population of Lara and the surrounding districts. The Lara clinic provides a full range of services to our clients and their animals, with extended hours in the evenings for those owners working in Melbourne and travelling home to Lara. We aim to make your pet feel at ease in our Clinic with a caring and gentle approach to our treatments and consultations.

With our modern computer system, all details of your animals histories are available at the touch of a button to both clinics, which are linked on-line.

Take a moment to meet our team and their own pets. We look forward to seeing you and your pet again at your next scheduled visit.

Upeka Nanayakkara

Veterinarian (BVSc,)

Another familiar face to a lot of our clients, Upeka has been here at the clinic since 2006 after graduating from Melbourne University. She took a little break from Corio in 2012, for 18 months to do some traveling.

Due to her experience, vision and dedication to the clinics Upeka has become the Lead Veterinarian and works closely with Kelly. Upeka is currently undertaking a diploma in management and has completed a post graduate course in feline medicine.

Outside of work Upeka is a fan of the outdoors, spending a lot of time gardening, doing the occasional fun-run and also continuing her travel-bug ways with as many trips overseas as she can manage. She is a black cat fan and her spoilt tiny orphaned black kitten called Tuohy is now a big beautiful boy.

Upeka is an integral part of our clinic team and is proving herself to be a great leader to our crew, we are lucky to have her here and are always grateful she did return from overseas.

Emily Turner

Veterinarian (MVB MRCVS)

Emily graduated from Dublin University in 2009. After coming to Australia to do work experience as a vet student, she always wanted to return.  In May 2014, Emily joined our team after four years practising at home in Ireland, and in the UK.  We are happy to welcome Emily to the clinic.

John is now retired, so he can spend more time travelling and working on the farm. But you may still see him around, as he helps us out with the occasional session.

Kelly

Practice Manager (Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing)

You may know Kelly from her nursing days – starting way back in August 2000! During her nursing career, Kelly gained her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, graduating from Box Hill TAFE with an award in Emergency nursing.

At the end of 2011, Kelly took a year-long break and moved to Darwin where she continued to work as a Veterinary Nurse. She re-joined our nursing team in 2013, and has brought back a wealth of knowledge and additional experience to share.

Knowing the clinic back to front and inside out, Kelly has now taken on the role of Practice Manager and is the central platform in our Veterinary team. She is always willing to help our patients, clients and staff and goes above and beyond to ensure things run smoothly in the clinic.

Kelly enjoys spending time with her two staffies and her newest family member, a little rescue pup. She still likes to get back to the warmer weather in Darwin when possible. When Kelly isn't at work she spends a lot of her time volunteering with Geelong Animal Rescue and can often be found at tin rattles or sausage sizzles around Geelong raising money to help out even more animals.

Kelly is pivotal to the running of the clinic, she can answer any question and sort out anything that needs to be sorted, and we are extremely lucky to have such a great leader in her.

Our long-term clients may remember her familiar face! Nikki has re-joined the clinic as of the start of 2019 after an 11-year break during which she was raising her two beautiful girls and working at other clinics.

Nikki is always willing to help both staff and clients and we are very happy to welcome her back to the clinic.

While in high school, she also took part in a volunteer placement at Australia Zoo in Queensland! This sparked her love for exotic animals. Playing fetch with otters and petting the Rhinos was definitely an experince she will never forget!

Kellie has settled into the clinic with ease and has a cheerful nature. We are very pleased to have her as part of the nursing team at the clinic.
